The San Diego Union-Tribune and KGTV/Channel 10, the local ABC affiliate, entered into a partnership to cooperate on news coverage and information gathering. The partnership also involved marketing, branding, and community involvement activities.

In mid-November 2009, Union-Tribune reporters began appearing on news programs from the KGTV studios and in live feeds from the newspaper’s offices and interviews from the field. The newspaper’s web site, SignonSanDiego.com, also has featured video from 10News.

Platinum purchased the San Diego Union-Tribune in March 2009, despite difficult conditions in the overall newspaper industry. The acquisition has meant significant improvements for the paper, which reaches 1.15 million weekly readers.
